WORKSHOPS

Are you interested in trying spoken word poetry, developing your practice, or arranging workshops for your school/organisation? I Am Loud offers a range of in-person and online workshops and development opportunities tailored to your interests.

IN PERSON WORKSHOPS

The Loud Poets team has years of experience running creative writing and performance workshops for a wide range of ages, experience levels, and interests.

They have delivered in-person workshops for local and international schools (including Institut Le Rosey and the Scottish Universities International Summer School), cultural organisations (including Aberdeen Performing Arts), and festivals (including StAnza).

They tailor their workshops to the interests and skills levels of each group they work with, and cover skills from basic poetry composition to building confidence onstage to technical stagecraft. If you’re interested in arranging workshops, developmental programming, or talks for your school or organisation, please get in touch

‘"Fantastic day and workshop. The guys have been insightful and fantastic. It has been very well organised, informative and 'hands-on'. The different techniques, voices and experiences presented have opened my mind about spoken word. Now I consider poetry in a new light.’ - Participant at our 29th January 2023 Spoken Word Workshop at the Scottish Storytelling Centre

LOUD POETS: WRITING CLUB

If you’re a poet interested in joining a welcoming, creative community and receiving tailored support and feedback, consider joining the Loud Poets Writing Club! It features monthly workshops on subjects and skills members request, plus throughout the month members share poems and opportunities and provide feedback and encouragement on each others’ work. To join, sign up to the I Am Loud Patreon Community Tier (£10/month).

‘Last night's writing club with I Am Loud was brilliant - fun, encouraging, and I got a poem I can't stop thinking about. There were new poets to old hands and everyone's work was excellent (thanks to Katie Ailes’ guidance).’ - Participant in the Loud Poets Writing Club

RETURN TO FORM

Interested in learning more about the basics of poetry and poetic form - for free? The Loud Poets Return to Form online workshop series features 18 full workshops: four on the fundamentals of poetic form and 16 step-by-step tutorials on how to write in forms including the sonnet, villanelle, sestina, and more. Check them out here.

‘I've been watching few episodes of this series and I find it enlightening. It explains how poems work with enough details to understand what's at play in the composition of a poem but the explanations are clear, structured, all the terms are defined and it's a pleasure to follow the path each video lays out on a given theme. For someone who knows nothing about poetry, this is like a translation guide.’ - Comment on our ‘How Rhyme Works in Poetry’ Workshop
